Alan Erasmus

Alan Erasmus an actor and band manager in the 1970s was one of the founding members of Factory records 1979. He along with Tony Wilson. Factory records are most famous for their launching of Joy Division. A very small operation at first, the label was initially run from an office in Erasmus’ apartment.

He also founded FAC 51 (The Hacienda) a Manchester nightclub that was made famous in the movie 24 hour party people.

The initial division of labour at Factory was simple. Tony Wilson provided funding and selected the talent, while Erasmus took care of general organization from a makeshift office at Flat 4, 86 Palatine Road.

Erasmus fell out with the founding members but attended Tony Wilsons funeral. Erasmus is still living at the same address on Palatine Road that he’s lived at for over 30 years – the same address which was the original office for Factory Records.

  • Why This Site

As a huge fan of Factory and their output and also knowing a little bit about website design I created this site as a tribute to Alan Erasmus as there seems to be precious little information online about him. The plan is to build this site over time into a biography site about the man.
